To officially be designated as an S corporation in New York, your business will be required to file a Form CT-6, which is the Election by a Federal S Corporation to be Treated as a New York S Corporation.

Email Instructions
Once we are ready to file your CT-6, you will receive an email titled [Action Required] - S Corp election New York & Federal. This email will include instructions for completing and signing both the IRS 2553 form (Federal S Corp Election) and the NY CT-6. Collective will provide a pre-filled form for New York’s Form CT-6, which you can find in your Documents on your Dashboard. The document will be titled Form CT-6_unsigned. Please follow these instructions to complete the form:

Review the document for accuracy. If the form is not accurate, please reach out to us by emailing hello@collective.com

If all the information is correct, please print and INK SIGN the Form CT-6 in TWO places:

The middle of the page, in the table under Column D “Shareholder’s Signature”

The bottom of the page, under Certification of Authorized Person.

Add the date it was signed.

Enter your Social Security Number in Section B.

Once signed, please scan the signed form and send it to us by uploading it to your Collective Dashboard. Please name the file “NY CT-6.pdf”

Keep the original signed form for your records.

What’s next?

Collective will fax your signed form CT-6 to the NYS Taxation Department on your behalf. You should receive a confirmation letter in the mail from the NYS Taxation Department in 30 - 90 days.

Once you’ve received your confirmation letter, please scan it and email it to hello@collective.com.

We’ll add your NYS S Election confirmation letter to your Collective Dashboard for future reference.
