Collective has partnered with a trusted third-party provider to provide registered agent services to Collective Members. When setting up your LLC, we designate this trusted provider as your Registered Agent. If you've joined Collective with an existing LLC, we can file a change of Registered Agent to our trusted third-party provider upon your request.
The cost of the registered agent service, in a single state, is included in your membership fee. We collaborate closely with these trusted providers to ensure that if your LLC receives any state notices or services of process, you will be promptly notified. Please note, registered agent designations in additional states, such as foreign registrations, will incur an additional annual fee that we’ll pass through to you.
What is a Registered Agent?
Think of a registered agent as your LLC’s reliable point of contact for receiving important legal documents. This includes everything from tax notices and government correspondences to legal summons. They ensure these critical documents are promptly delivered to you.

How Does the Switch Work?
When you form your LLC or register in a new state with Collective, a trusted third-party provider will automatically be appointed as your Registered Agent. If you already have an LLC and want to switch to one our third-party provider to serve as your Registered Agent, just let us know by sending a message through the messaging center in your Collective Dashboard! We handle the paperwork and make the transition smooth and hassle-free.
What Does It Cost?
Great news - there’s no extra charge for registered agent services for your state of formation! It’s included in your Collective membership. If you need registered agent services in additional states, we’ll manage that for you for an additional fee, billed directly through your Collective account.
How Long Does the Transition Take?
The time it takes to switch registered agents can vary. Some state databases update within hours, while others might take a few weeks to process changes. We’ll keep you updated every step of the way.
Can I Be My Own Registered Agent?
Absolutely, you can choose to be your own Registered Agent if you prefer. However, keep in mind that this role requires you to be available during standard business hours to accept hand-delivered legal documents. If you’re often out and about or prefer not to receive legal documents in your place of business, having a commercial registered agent might be a better fit for your needs.
Moving Away from our provider?
If you decide to switch from our trusted provider to be your own registered agent or another third-party provider, please let us know. This allows us to internally update our records and to cancel any upcoming renewal charges for additional state registrations associated with your account.
