Updated over a week ago

To administer your Wage Withholding, Sales, Corporate Income, and/or any other tax account with the Colorado Department of Revenue, you need to sign up and create an account using these instructions.
(Please note that these instructions will only create a log-on to access an existing tax account. This will not register you for a new tax type.)

  1. Visit the CO-Department of Revenue online portal and click the "Sign Up" option under the Log-in section.

  2. On the next page, the website will let you know what information you need to sign up for an account. Click "Next.

  3. Now select the options following these guidelines:

    1. For "Tax Type," select the type of tax account you want to access. If you are registered for multiple tax types, you can only select one to create the account and add the remaining tax accounts after creating the account. For Withholding Tax account access, please select "Wage Withholding.

    2. For ID, please select either "FEIN" or "Colorado Account Number." If you're not sure what your Colorado Account Number is, please contact Collective.

    3. Now enter your email address and then re-enter the same email address to confirm. Then enter your Zip code.

    4. Next, enter your Colorado Account Number. This is your Withholding Account #, which you can find in letters from the CO Department of Revenue. If you can't find one, please contact Collective.

    5. Choose a verification type as "Recent Letter ID" and enter the letter ID from one of the recent letters from the Department of Revenue. If you have been running payroll for atleast a quarter and Gusto has filed one quarterly report for you, you can select the "Colorado Tax Withheld Amount" option. Please contact Collective to get the exact amount if you're unsure.

  4. Once you've entered the above information, click "Next." The system will now ask you to enter some additional details. Then, create your user ID and password

  5. On the last page, review all the information to make sure it is correct, and submit the request.

The log-on is created immediately after submitting the details. The first time you log in, the system will ask you to set up 2-factor authentication. Please make sure to use an active email/phone number for this.

Your payroll tax returns and payments are handled by the payroll software, Gusto. The state usually emails/mails you any new correspondence related to your Tax Accounts. This means that you’re not required to regularly log in and check the account status. We do, however, suggest that you log in to your account once a quarter to check if any action items require your immediate attention.

If you need help handling any notice or action items related to your Colorado Department of Revenue account, please share the details with us by sending an email to [email protected]. Our Payroll Tax team will be more than happy to assist you.
